The Seagull S6 is a guitar that’s vying for first place in our list of the best acoustics under $500 for a reason. The overall price of this great steel-string guitar may surprise you since it features traits you’d normally anticipate in a considerably higher price range — solid wood, sophisticated tone, and North American craftsmanship. Let’s look at it in more detail.

For a little higher price, an electro-acoustic version of the S6 is available, but today we’re looking at the original, which is devoid of electronics.

A series of specially-aligned tuning machinery can be found on the characteristic Seagull headstock, promising to keep the strings straighter and the tuning more stable. They were a touch stiff at first, but they’re a lot of fun to use and keep your tune in check.

A rosewood bridge, a Tusq nut, and a compensated saddle are all included. A case isn’t included in the pricing, but you’re already getting a good value on the build and components, so it’s not a big problem.

Body & Neck – Seagull S6

The S6 manages to display both a distinct design and the conventional appearance of a classic dreadnought. It isn’t crammed with abalone and elaborate design like some others – while that style has its appeal, the S6’s basic, the modest character is really attractive.

The S6 has a 24.84″ scale length and a body built entirely of Canadian woods. The top is made of pressure-tested solid wood, while the back and sides are made of wild cherry with a light semi-gloss lacquer finish.

The S6 feels sturdy and durable, but polished and completed without the minor flaws you’d expect from a less expensive guitar, thanks to the skilled construction. The S6 also has a silver leaf maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and 21 frets, which is connected at the 14th fret. This features a light, sleek matte texture that is highly pleasant for all sizes of hands.

Seagull S6 – Sound

It’s difficult to find an acoustic guitar that sounds as nice as the S6 at a similar price. It’s simply stunning.

Seagull’s strong craftsmanship and the high-quality timbers utilized contribute to this. It has a deep, warm tone that, despite the wood top, is surprisingly bright. It’s loud and clear thanks to its dreadnought body, and the sustain lasts for a long time. It is, once again, quite difficult to top for the price.

If you’ve read our review, you’ll know that we, like thousands of other Seagull customers, are great admirers of the S6.
It’s no surprise that the S6 is a favorite among guitarists of all types, because of its superior materials, workmanship, and tone. Yes, the comfort and affordability make it ideal for novices, but experienced guitarists will appreciate the build and tone (as well as the price!).
