Description

Eddie Van Halen is one of the most renowned guitarists of all time, and his famous striped Frankenstrat is one of the most famous guitars of all time. While EVH Guitars offers some really high-end Eddie Van Halen bespoke models (we’re talking $13,000+), this rendition of his stunning striped Frankenstrat appears to be fairly reasonable for a guitar around $1000. Let’s have a look at this bad boy in more detail…

The body on which these vibrant colors are painted is a solid basswood Strat type double-cutaway with flawless glossy finishes – not a blemish in sight. With such a stylish design, one of the model’s features is the neck, which is really stunning. It’s thin and quick, thanks to reinforced quartersawn maple, a smooth hand-rubbed finish, and a compound radius that flattens as you go to the highest of the 22 jumbo frets, making it as simple to shred as it is to chord. Brilliant.

Yes, it’s enormous. From deep rhythmic power chords to screaming hot lead, all you need is a single humbucker to reproduce some of the most iconic EVH tones. They have a lot of output and aren’t particularly polished, so they’ll give you a lot of aggressiveness and feedback. Although you won’t be able to duplicate the legendary Brown Sound with this humbucker, the overall tone of this beast is hard to beat.

It’s fantastic. Although this Strat isn’t the ideal base for emulating Eddie – there are more costly EVH versions with better pickups – there’s nothing to complain about for the sub-$1000 price tag in terms of design, playability, and overall tone.

It’s fantastic. It took a long time to come, but once It did, I fixed it up to my taste, and it plays and sounds fantastic. The designs are stunning, and they have a high gloss finish. This guitar has made me very happy. There is no case included.

Eddie was a hero and an inspiration to me, so I bought this guitar in his honor. The reissued versions were beyond my price range, but this had everything I was looking for: basic electronics, Floyd Rose with D-Tuna, and the black and white gloss from Van Halen’s debut album. The fretwork was good (but not flawless), and the guitar was ready to play right out of the box after tuning and tweaking the D-Tuna fine tuner screw. If you don’t have someone to put it up for you, look it up on YouTube. Fast and comfy neck, but no gigbag for the price.

This guitar has a great tone and is easy to play. The only drawback is that if you want to use the bar, you’ll need to install a trem stabilizer.
