Description

While there are some luxury Fender Telecasters that cost upwards of $10,000 – and wouldn’t we all love one of those? — today we’re looking at a Telecaster that costs less than $200. The Affinity Telecaster, released by Squier, a budget Fender subsidiary, promises good design and tone at a price that anyone can afford, making it ideal for beginners. Let’s look at this popular model in more detail.

Tonally, there’s plenty of quality here, though it does show symptoms of being a cheaper guitar when the volume rises, especially when the pickups hum and buzz a little. Still, it’s not horrible, producing a warm, clear sound with the typical Tele twang that goes so well with country, jazz, and blues guitars, while it’s also capable of playing harder styles if you have the overdrive.

There are a few spots on the Affinity Telecaster that give away its price, but overall, this is a great instrument with a classic styling, smooth playability, and a very decent tone. We have no reservations in recommending this to total beginners to intermediate guitarists looking for a low-cost blues instrument to play around with.

“C”-Shaped Neck Profile

This instrument’s comfortable “C”-shaped neck profile (neck shape in cross-section) is carved to give it a vintage-style playing experience. It’s the most common neck profile design, and it’s incredibly comfortable for all playing styles.

Six Saddle Bridge

The bridge on this model has six separate saddles for precise intonation along each string.

Two Color Headstock Logo

This instrument has a touch of sophistication thanks to the exquisite gold and black two-color headstock logo.

  1. Oliver Zimmerman

It’s well-made and it has that awesome telecaster sound. I now prefer this to my Fender Professional series. It’s fantastic.

  2. Luke Hines

These guitars offer incredible value for money. I’ve been playing for over 20 years and have experimented with a variety of guitars. Like many other players, I was led to believe that only the most expensive instruments are worthwhile. This guitar is amazing. The neck has a wonderful matt sheen and feels great. It’s reassuring to know that if they receive a scratch or scrape, you won’t have to worry about them. The sound is quite convincing over a stage amp, and they have that lovely snappy Telecaster tone.

  3. Jimmie M.

For the price, it’s not a bad sound. I’m quite pleased with it. It requires a few tweaks and it’ll be perfect.
